RodC, I like the video in your post. The fading in and out of the LED set is pretty realistic. As for a lightship the Nantucket LV-117 is neat looking and has some history behind it. It was in a collision with the White Star liner Olympic. Plenty of photos and drawings out there with enough info to make a nice scratch built model. There are some kits floating around but at 1/96 scale they are kind of small.

That NORTH CARR lightship is very interesting, i would like to build something along the same lines. I dont think we hav any lightships here (Canada). Do you hav any supplementary pix?
For our "light up the night" events here at Spencers Pond (Burlington) & Lakefront Promenade (Mississauga) i built a floating offshore rig & hav just started a lighthouse on a (floating) island. The lightkeeper's mansion is a cottage-like birdfeeder (close to G-scale), from Princess Auto. That saves a lot of structure building. The lighthouse is built primarily from bits of wooden items from DOLLARAMA. I shall edit to post pictures after they are both assembled.
The offshore rig is based on the tiny picture of a rig on a model boat pond somewhere in UK, I dont recall where, its at least a year since i captured it.

I looked at pix of a dozen lighthouses we hav on Lake Huron & freelanced it. Shall hav a pulsating LED beacon to simulate a rotating light.

While we are not in Scotland now, we had Edmund Faulks and Anne Whittaker, come to lunch in our home today here in Port Perry, Ontario 🇨🇦

You may recall, Edmund is an excellent model boat builder who uses 3D printing and is very active in the Dundee Model Boat Club, established 1885.

Most of the club’s Facebook Group posts feature his models. He told me, “If you search cgtrader.com for edmundfaulkes or HMS Sheffield, or HMS Amethyst or HMS Ton or North Carr, you will see my 4 ships that I'm selling on there at the moment. The Sheffield has had 60,000 views on Facebook in the last 4 hours and almost 2000 likes and 100 comments. Popular!!”

We were guests in their home when we visited Scotland just a few weeks ago.
Knowing they would be coming through this area on Ontario, we were thrilled to have them here.

We are not that far from you at the moment as we are doing a cruise around the Norwegian Fiords to celebrate my wife's upcoming birthday. Taken a few nice photographs but not many of boats worthy of showing compared with you guys!

This is the view from our balcony on one of the stops.

Moved along to Fort William along the Neptune Stairway set of locks.

I walked up to the top and photographed a few boats for everyone.

We took the train to Glenfinnan to see the old steam train crossing the viaduct a6 km walk/hike. Then we boarded the train to Malliag where we toured them museum where I photographed several model fishing boats called Drifters from the Herring fishing fleets.

They also had a large SNLI model. I know these are a favourite of many of you.

Saw one boat, one ship and two models yesterday.

This solid wood hull model was at our hotel, Lynnfield Hotel and the owner gave me permission to handle it. It needs repair but the model appears to be a steamer with two masts and sails. Name on the bow is Cormorant.

The sea stack is The Old Man of Hoy famous here on the Orkney Islands. During WWII some Spitfire pilots flew through the gap wing tip to the sky.

I found a photo in a book of someone doing the stunt. Betcha his flight commander was not too pleased with that pilot!

I would sure like to remove these from their shelf and have a good look at these three, they are here at the Granary Lodge Bed & Breakfast on the grounds of the Castle of Mey in northern Scotland.

We are heading north from Inverness to Thurso this morning on ScotRail. We are to stay the next two nights at the Granary on the grounds of the Castle of Mey.

From all that we’ve been able to determine we could be heading into some wet weather and wind. We came prepared ( I hope) just no slickers.

Stay tuned

Hi, Ron in Scotland, I don't know if you are interested in Clyde Puffers or not, if you are interested in seeing and maybe a trip out on the water, the last two remaining puffers are at Crinan, on the Crinan Canal which links the Sound of Jura to Lock Fyne. Crinan is a rather remote area in the middle of no where. Mind, definitely worth while, or at least I thought so. Plus they do trips out around the Western Iles. Enjoy your holiday. Regards Gary.

Better than my breakfast this morning! I find that guesthouses/B&Bs usually do the best breakfasts, better than hotels, as we found on a visit to Wales recently. Have stayed in Inverness on a couple of trips and did long walks along the river. Where's your next stop?

Enjoy yourself.

Morning everyone from Inverness. If you come this way, try to stay at the Castle View Guesthouse where Eleanor Watt is the owner and caregiver, which includes carrying your luggage up and down the stairs. She is a fantastic hostess.

My breakfast was delicious and she prepared me fresh smoked Haddock with a poached egg. She also had fresh hot scones, clotted cream and homemade jams.

The views from our dining room table were looking across the River Ness.

We are taking a walk along the River Ness, after breakfast, I need a good walk!

Cheers

Ronald,
That is a magnificent museum, isn't it?
We were there 6-27-24.
Enjoy the vacation. Do you plan on seeing the Kelpies? Worth the drive!
Castle tours are great as well. A couple of favorites were Stirling, and Edinburgh.

So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.

As I said Ron, that is my opinion. I respect other opinions so I am not going to tell you you are wrong. Do I care about setting sails on old sailing ships?

I am happy to say that my house is almost done and I will be back to working on my model boats.

Lew just for you!

I purposely placed photos that included sailing vessels that were sailing windward.

Did you know that these vessels were capable of setting the yard arms almost at a 60 deg angle to the mast?

Yes, some model boat builders are doing RC flying too, thus the Spitfire was of interest to some too

Finally, the sculptures above the doorways had planked hulls which were very defined.

Ronald, your post with all the photos precisely proved my point. Although beautiful, not one of them interested me enough to open them for closer examination. Nothing to do with model boats. Imagine if all members decided to post anything how tough it would be to weed out true model boat posts.

There are eight categories in this forum and we do not have the option to turn specific ones on and off. The option is to see all or select one at a time (and step through them individually).

One can turn ALL the forum (all subjects) notifications together off and on. So, it is an all or none problem. (Notifications = emails.)

Okay a number of people have asked me to post some pictures, boats or no boats.

I saw this painting which fascinated me. The Dutch vessels are painted in a Windward position. Look at the yard arm position and sails. Some vessels are also sailing down wind.

The seas are rather wild too.
