Dave, your refreshing blend of irony, seasoned with a good pinch of cynicism, is exactly the recipe for sitting back and letting today’s global madness roll off you with a certain sense of amusement. Firstly, most of us are probably too old to actively fight back, and secondly, many of us tried in our younger days – through military service, political activities, NGOs and the like, as well as in supporting the next generation – to instil at least some sense of reason in our immediate surroundings.

Actually, Jumpugly, we have TWO aims, we either aim to please, or aim for the rigging. (I'll go back to my gun crew now)😉

Howdy from Texas Ian!! You’ve come to the right place. Everybody here is friendly and there’s a TON of knowledge here, and people here readily help if asked. Welcome aboard!!

Ian,

I hope that by characterizing this site as "Social Medium", you don't leave "as a matter of principle".
This is a great group, very unlike most other social media sites ....

So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.

As a newcomer to this community, I am deeply impressed by how close many members are to one another, even though I assume most have never met in person (and possibly don’t even know each other’s real names). As a matter of principle, and also due to lack of interest, I am not active on any so-called social media; now I realise that the Model Boats website is exactly that – a social medium. No reason, however, to lump it together with TikTok and the like; on the contrary. I join in the good wishes – at 80 years of age, one is at least a candidate for similar "developments".

Thanks for sharing the story. Happy to hear you are recovering. I think it is important that we share updates on fellow modellers when it comes to health issues.

Hello Doug.. Very psed to see you back and watch the comments and builds going on within this great site.
Welcome to the club although i had a Zip job done in 1997 ( triple bypass )..it took some time for me personally to mend, but i,m sure having this hobby as an interest will help.. This unfortunately made my builds very long and with a harbormaster like mine that constantly tidys up, i had trouble location the parts sometimes. To refer to that old saying.. Gently Gently catche' Monkey and i,m sure will be a good road to take.. Keep smiling.. ATB Muddy . ( Brian )
ps.. Sorry to say I am old school and love building from plans mostly, useing Balsa Wood and i aint had one breat yet.. ( All fingers and things crossed.. ) 73

You got this Doug!!!
Glad you are feeling better. And remember your three best friends are your Cardiologist, your Urologist, and then your wife or partner. In that order!
😉

Keep listening to what the doctors and your body tells you and go easy.
And start building dammit!

Yea Doug, no news would be good news, so I didn't ask. When guys disappear from this website for months on end, it's NOT because of a disagreement with the tax authorities, I first noticed your absence from QoD

Hi Doug, glad to hear that you're getting well again. Although I have been inactive on here due to health issues myself, am still waiting for new hip and knee replacements.
I do check out what's happening as often as possible, but life seems to keep getting in the way.
Cheers Colin.

Hi to all those who had noticed I had gone missing,
Many thanks for your enquiries and concern, and for even noticing that I was AWOL🤓 Everything has not been OK but now getting better.
Spent most of the last two months in heart clinics and cardio specialists (with limited or no internet access) having been carted off in an emergency ambulance on 26th January.
Had a thorough medical MOT (TUF in Germany)🙄 culminating in an aorta heart valve replacement.
Now beginning to regain some strength and stamina, which had been deteriorating over the last year or so until I couldn't manage a flight of stairs without a pause.
Now I can😉
Also, on the site I had noticed an increasing bias towards vintage boats, Aerokits & Co, which is not my main interest, à chacun à son goût. I did my bit for that topic some 8 years ago with the restoration and upgrade of my Sea Scout 'Jessica'. Which I recorded here in a detailed Build Blog. Repeating that process again and again is not my thing.
Naval ships, Dreadnought to present day and Plastic Magic RC conversions ARE.
Cheers, Doug😎
Young at heart 😉 Slightly older in other places.😊 Cheers Doug
