Don't panic Nerys😊
Give it another week or so.
Quote,

Has anyone seen a copy of the new incarnation of Model Boats yet?

Cash, I used to subscribe to the magazine, Ships in Scale by Seaways, from your side of the pond. This was always a good magazine and I've just noticed they are now available on disc (or flash drive) from the Nautical Research Guild.

The NRG are offering a free digital read of their Spring 2020 magazine. The NRG magazine is 'high end' model making and looks to be similar to the now out of print quarterly Model Shipwright magazine. There is a lot of good model making in the magazine with an interesting item for military historians about the Canadian Flower Class corvettes.

COOL!! As Doc Hudson said in the first Disney “Cars” movie, “ Hot Snot we’re back in business!!”
I like getting a print mag in my hands, and the occasional free pull ou plan is a big bonus to me as I’ve been described as a bit of a...(ahem) “plans whore”😂
I used to buy “Aviation Modeller International” almost every month for several years, loved their plans, built a few planes from them. I also went on a bender of old timer plans about a decade ago, I’d scour eBay for plans lots, and if it was a good deal, I’d buy it. I also keep my plans from projects I’ve built. I have a 2 drawer file cabinet full of aircraft plans, and now....I’m starting on boats. Have a few sets already. I might be an addict.
Oh, did I mention the two legal boxes full of old model aircraft mags from the 30’s🙄

Many thanks Pete (Vielen Dank)👍
A3 in pdf format would be good, if it ain't tooo much trouble😉
If not A4 would do. PDF format is good cos it's easier to import into my CAD software for scaling and/or mods. I'll PM you if anything interesting pops up.
Looks like the 'next' issue of MB mag will be the one that they were planning for the June issue! Saw it in the Preview at the back end of the May issue, last one I received!

Guten Tag Doug, I do have an A4 scanner and have access to a friends A3 one, but if we need a larger size, it is not a problem to have it made larger and sent by post.😊

Mornin' Pete, (It is here now - Just!)
Ref the MB free plans-
I would be most grateful👍
I'll let you know if one particularly interests me.
Do you have a scanner? A3? A4?

In essence I think that the MB platform that Stephen created here HAS evolved into a sort of Model Boats / Ships magazine.
The quality of many Build Blogs I see here, the thought that has obviously gone into presentation, photos and text, can hold it's own with anything I have seen in the UK and German model boats mags. Well done Shipmates☀️☀️☀️
We all tell out stories, solve problems and swap experiences and expertise, and many 'Guests/Recruits' hover on the sidelines and benefit from this.
Just like the commercial magazines we have a hardcore (if one can/dare use such a once harmless word these days😮) of contributors and bloggers.
But a HELLUVA LOTTA readers!! Possibly more than MB mag subscribers??
So we must be doing summat right, and I count you amongst the 'We'👍

All the best, stay safe.

NO! definitely not volunteering for any position on a mag, yes, agree with you, our website has to be the best at what we do, with such a diverse membership from all over the world.
If it is a free plan than you want from any month, let me know and I can copy and send electronically, or snail mail.😊

No Pete, you didn't 'mislay' me!😮
I do that enough myself, when I go into a room and wonder what I'm doing there🙄

You did manage to confuse me though.🙄
Now I see what you mean. Are you volunteering as Editor perchance?😉
I certainly wouldn't want to load poor 'old' Stephen with that as well as all the good work he does maintaining and improving our site/meeting place.
In a way I think we already have our On-line magazine.
And you DO subscribe👍 Good onya😀
We have on-going stories and sagas all over the site.
I'm very pleased to say😊

Ref: your subs notification; mine came as an Email direct from Pocket Mags.
There was a notification of sorts, from Colin Bishop I think, on the MB mag forum site.
Surprised the MB subs manager didn't email all subscribers.
Whatever! Looking forward to receiving my 'digits' end of July.🤞
Won't get the free plan though 😭😭
All the best,

Apologies Doug, may have mislaid you on my post,
I meant to say, if we here at Model Boats Website had a model magazine, I would subscribe.😐
I do however have a hard copy subscription to model boat mag, and have never received any notification from them that the mag was ceasing during the covid pandemic, and I could cancel my subscription.

" would subscribe if we had an online model boats mag! is that an idea?😮"
Mornin' Pete.
That's not only an idea - but a old one to boot!

I've had a digital subscription for years.
Originally run by MB subs dept., for some time now digital subscriptions are handled by a firm called 'Pocket Mags'. If you select digital subscription on the MB mag website you will be redirected there.
At the beginning of the shutdown every digital subscriber was sent an Email offering them the choice of cancelling their subscription or waiting it out. In the latter case the subscription would be automatically extended by the number of issues which were not published.
That is now the case, and is also stated in the message that Tony refers to below.
"If you subscribe to the magazine, all issues that have been missed will be added onto the end of current subscription term. If you pay for your subscription via direct debit, the date on which payments are withdrawn from your account will be adjusted; you will be contacted about this individually."
So DON'T PANIC Pete👍
Cheers, Doug 😎
BTW As I understand it the 'missing months' can't be issued; cos they were never produced!
How? Most staff were sent home or laid off🤔

Contacted the subscriptions dept last week, to ask why they had taken money out of my account, but had not received any mags, spoke to Beth Ashby-Njiiri 9Head of subscriptions department)
and she assured me that they will be starting again in August, so I enquired, will the missing months be issued, to which the answer was NO, well what did we expect, reason for holding the printing, was due to WH Smiths cancelling their order, as all their shops were closed due to the pandemic, very nice, sod the modellers who pay by subscriptions.😠
I also enquired as to why they didn't leave a message on their website, explaining the lack of delivery's, but it fell on deaf ears.

Hmm! The 21st is today, and nothing in sight camyaj!
Your newsagent is probably the last to know, except perhaps we readers.🤔
Last I heard directly from publisher/distributor on 7th May is-
"Hi Doug,
Thank you for getting in contact.
Due to the current suspension we have been informed that it would be for approximately 3 months at the most. This is why your subscription was extended to the 8th May 2021 rather than the original 7th February 2021. This is so you are not paying for the missing issues, please let me know if you are still wanting the remainder of your subscription to be cancelled and refunded.

Model Boat Magazine

Hi. Whilst not quite the same, Model Boats, Model Engineer, Model Engineers Workshop and RCME have all been through various owners since the good old MAP days when they were at there peak. As an ex model engineer I noticed the change in ME after Martin Evans and LBSC died. Same with model boats without Vic Smeed. Engineerinng in Miniature was published by Tee Publishing now part of Warner.
As we know about 12 publications are closing their doors due to Covid 19. Traplet was a different story No Money but it will be interesting to see what happens next
Only old in years not mind or soul.

Model Boat Magazine

Not quite the same Ian - the whole of Traplet folded - overeached themselves.
I thought Traplet actually owned the SA outlet - not the fellow that ran it - nice guy -cant think of his name at the moment.
With MB its just our magazine under threat - as the other titles seem to be still "profitable"
In the end its all about money ...........and greed.
Problem is its a shrinking market - my ex club in the UK average age was about 65 or so ten years ago -now its a lot more than that - lot of the members I knew are no longer around. Model Aircraft & Model Engineering seem to have a much wider following.
Witness the Plan sites Outer Zone & Aerofred for Aircraft plans versus the small amount DG has been able to save on Old Boats for posterity.

Model Boat Magazine

Sounds like the same as Marine Modelling by Traplet. I have renewed my subs and only got one copy! The poor guy who was the agent in SA lost a lot of money on their plans and laser cut packs that had been ordered and paid for.

Hi All,
Sorry if I dampen your hopes!😐
Below copies of my email exchange with Pocket Mags, the online purveyors of MB magazine.
'approximately 3 months at the most' 🙄 I think I'll cancel and claim the refund.
Interesting is that I'm still receiving my copies of Modellwerft here in Munich on the dot.
No hint of any changes, restrictions, suspension or any problem at all!
Seems MB mag was in a shaky state anyway.🤔
Cheers, Doug 😎
PS " I checked with my newsagent and they said they would be getting the next issue on the 21st (next Thursday)."
Hmm! Newsagents are at the bottom of the pecking order. We'll see!
