Our club made the local news!!
The local Fox TV channel contacted us and told us they'd like to do a short feature on us.
The time allotted was short, but I think we did a nice job representing our hobby.
Hopefully this may create more interest in the local community!
Here are links to the 3 segments they aired:

ATSF railroad tug and barge
Ran the tug and barge yesterday up at the Elk Grove Regional park with the Sacramento Model Shipwrights. Worked out well with no navigational troubles. Plenty of rudder authority.

Very nice. What scale are the trains?
  • algonChief Petty Officer 1st Class
The train scale is 1/24th. I used an inexpensive battery operated New Bright train set. The barge is a large block of Styrofoam with a rubberized coating of Flexseal. Deck is plywood. Length is around 67 inches (170cm)
The railroad tug I built up as you see it now from a model I picked up thru a classified ad but it's origins are unknown.(see pic) Hull is a plastic coated expanded foam material

Identification Help needed British Warship
Over 20 years ago I was given this F/G hull and the plan but in several moves the plans were lost.
Can any one identify from shape of hull what class she is. The photo I had showed a large canvas cover suspended over the stern deck as if she was in warmer climate.
Many thanks

You have all been very helpful and think I have narrowed it down to Castle Class. Looking at Caister Castle K690, Denbigh K 696 and Flint Castle k383. Hull looks very close.
The model is 66 inch stem to transom and 10 inch on the beam.
Now just need to find some detail on deck and superstructure.

Thank you all for your help

I would say its a 'Castle Class' Corvette/Frigate hull

I'm pleased to see you have painted the inside of the boat, as well as the exterior.
Knowing how water will get into the insides of every boat, no matter what, it vexes me to see so many boats with unpainted interiors.
Perhaps I'm moving in the wrong circles ? 😉

The way I see it the inside is just as important. It's all been sealed primed and top coated.

    "Any Details on the Turbine?
    Trev"

Trev.. This is an elderly Wren 54 configured as a 2 stage drive (ie. the turbine is a gas generator which drives a turbine driven gearbox). You can see the setup in the Video of the mechanics running.

Had a chance to run my Midwest model of a lobster Boat at Spencer's in Burlington It's the 150 anniversary of the town of Burlington Ontario . The forest fire smoke wasn't to bad the day I ran the boat . I named model off of a Canadian Singer Stompin' Tom Connors - Wikipedia songs about a lobster boat The Gumboot Clogaroo .

RC Tyne Paddle Tug
Built by Buxton Model Boat Club member Adrian , he says :- "essentially the paddle boat is scratch built but uses some fittings and materials from a Disar "Vanguard" kit ".
Adrian used drawings of "Flying Scotsman" for inspiration, but is not a faithful reproduction, although "Old Trafford" is also quite similar .
This was the maiden voyage so plenty more work to be done on detail and ballast etc.as the boat still sits a bit low in the water.
For reference see :- http://tynetugs.co.uk/

Fairey "Maybe" on the water
Just taken dads old boat out and it handles well. I might add some short chines to the aft section just to stop it skidding out so much on turns and it is a bit over powered. Only running on 4 S in the video, 6 S next 😂. Not sure if the YouTube link works.

INGA IV - Luxury Ketch
Believed to be from Revell Models , " INGA IV " is a model Ketch , owned and sailed here by Martin Ward of the Hayling Island Model Boat Club.

RCSailing is just for fun, no gain. Other than sharing photos and videos relating to Buxton Model Boat Club activities, from time to time its nice to "showcase" models from other clubs and members as seen here with the link between BMBC & HIMBC - all sharing the common interest in model boats and the "Model Boat Website".
