Hello may I put in my 2 pennorth? There should be a nice foamy bow wave to show she means business. You can get this by putting spaced verticle strip fenders at the bow that go into the water and disturb the waterflow to give a 'moustache'. So no increase in speed needed. Hope you do not mind this suggestion.

I have a Plaudit a very similar type of tug. The Port of London Authority had 2 tugs like this, (now sold on) the other called Plashet. Note the PLA in the names. Always a pleasure to run the model.
    regards

Only live about 10 mins (5km) away Ron, plus I have a big estuary just down the road, (usually too many kids swimming at the jetty when the tide's in (covers the whole huge area), so the other one is quieter. Have run the airboat and the Maiami there though,- endless room at high tide. Last pic is my 15ft Schock (1953 US design) day sailer on the estuary,- have sailed it as far as I could go up the estuary (distance 3rd pic) for a bit of fun, but it's mostly too shallow now to sail properly unless it's a king tide. Still good for Hobie Cats or the like with no keels, kayaks and SUPs. Local surf club trains on it occasionally.

All the huge new subdivisions round it have silted the whole thing up. It has probably come up about 3ft in 12 yrs. Would have made a superb 100% centerboard sailing lake if the road bridge had had gates fitted which could be closed weekly at high tide, but that would have been too far sighted of the council. Going to end up a huge mangrove filled swamp if nothing's done.

Hi Ron, not much of a current there as it's wide and shallow where I was, but on the other side of the bridge it gets a bit quick after the tide turns, as it narrows down to about 12ft. Nowhere for anything to go really except down to the sea about 200m, where it's wadeable , even at high tide, (shallow sloping beach). Where I was (about 1/2 hr after full tide) it was only mostly up to mid shin. Ideal place for a play, either side of the bridge. Calm spots like this, or on the other side, small rapids for jet boats or air boats. Bit more interesting than a flat pond.

When the tide is out, there is virtually nothing there, so it's also good for RC crawlers or 4x4s, (some idiot actually drove a 100% quad bike under the bridge from along the beach, and did donuts on the flat part)- not clever, big mangrove area behind, where fish breed in the channels further up.

Haven't tried hard turns and full throttle yet (usually 1/2 is plenty) so though I'd take the boat out and chuck it round a bit. Didn't fall over, so passed the test. More than enough go for 'sensible' use,- could even afford to de-power it a bit. Not too bad for brushed motors.

Having another play at the creek. Condition of the areas' surface is dependent on weather. One day it can be really smooth, next big sand corrugations and creek edges due to wave action. Hard to get the perfect day. As can be seen, the creek is a bit rocky as well. Fun all the same.

Nobby Clarks, Noah's Arks, -rhyming slang for sharks down here Ron. We have a population of around 250 Orca in NZ waters, but they apparently have different habits to Orca elsewhere. eg,- the don't seem to be interested in seals or sea lions, mainly stingrays, skates etc. The pics in the last post were of part of a pod of orca, just off a beach north of Auckland near where I live, the mother was teaching the calf to catch stingrays right in almost to the small beach there.

No-one's ever been attacked by them here, and they seem more curious than dangerous, and often come up to surfers, kayakers and boats for a look. They quite often come up the harbour in Auckland as well. There will be no sharks to worry about with them in the area, - probably safer swimming with them around.

Orcaโ€™s eh? They are in the waters off B.C. but not the waters of Ontario as we are freshwater. A quick search of Nobbly are these a type of shark?

Those are scary videos of the Orca pods swarming those vessels and the wakeboard we. Especially when you know these things eat seals and attack infant blue whales.

No crocs here Ron, the Maori ate them all years ago, the ones they missed swam to Australia, plenty of Nobby Clarks though, but they only come a few miles inland, same with the orca.๐Ÿ˜‰ Other places have swimming with the dolphins, we have swimming with the orca.๐Ÿ˜

Finally got a chance to have a better go with it in the water. Tried to catch the slack tide, but missed it again, so had the outgoing current to deal with. Still had a bit of fun with it, but the sand was just thick and silty again (needs low tide to dry out), so the truck had trouble getting out by itself. Water was also full of long pine needles and sticks which didn't help either. Fun all the same.

From a design concept incorporating an old power boat destined for the rubbish tip ! - to a functional Camera platform to capture some of the fantastic models that sail at our local venues.

The emerging creation ( all be it rough and ready !) will incorporate rotating fan motor and 360 degree rotating camera with live feed FPV camera.

My enjoyment is to capture the the skill, time and effort that fellow modelers put into their creations - whether they be they scratch built, own designs, kit sets or off the shelf.
