- Frankiesays1953🇬🇧Chief Petty Officer 2nd ClassThat’s a very sleek yacht and sails beautifully. I notice that you are sailing close hauled in several directions, what she like on a reach or run? There’s a fair breeze there, do you foresee having to replace the genoa with a jib in a blow? That’s a very sleek yacht and sails beautifully. - MartinH2🇬🇧Petty Officer 1st ClassHello Frankiesays, you are right, since that video I have moved the mast top backwards due to a pretty strong Lee helm which has worked a treat, she is pretty neutral now. Trying to sail and hold the camera meant sail trimming wasn't the best however broad reaching she looks and goes beautifully, straight downwind = no nose dives so far and very controllable. I have a jib which is about 20% smaller than the Genoa which I have yet to try but am still learning to work with the rig as it is at the moment.Hello Frankiesays, you are right, since that video I have moved the mast top backwards due to a pretty strong Lee helm which has worked a treat, she is pretty neutral now. Here is Gaham`s latest account of the - "Maiden Voyage"
Before the maiden (!) voyage, a quick head 'transplant' !! I'd like to introduce 'Katie the Kayaker' 😂🤣
It was with some trepidation that Katie was carefully launched onto the Buxton lake. An ideal day last weekend with very little wind. I knew she would float, but would she move, and be controllable? Well the answer is yes - sort of 🤔
Thanks to Philcaretaker for the video clip.
She managed to paddle out, turn and paddle back, which was a great start. At least she didn't need rescuing. Shame she wouldn't keep hold of the paddle!
The paddle blades are not feathered at the right angle. The starboard blade is at the wrong angle and is hitting the water causing the kayak to rock excessively from side to side.
Once back on dry land, the kayak was checked inside for water. There was just a drop but nothing to worry about, which was also a relief.
So, overall it was reasonably successful, but several teething problems to be resolved before the next outing.👍

Great for when the pond is full of weed - Also if no wind , stick a motor on the front or back !.
Just have fun !

- AlannichollsPetty Officer 1st ClassSo lovely to see. I have a Comtesse that I bought 40 years ago, and still sail on the occasional weekends.👍So lovely to see. I have a Comtesse that I bought 40 years ago, and still sail on the occasional weekends.👍Liked by philcaretaker

Length - 720mm
Beam - 166mm
Keel depth - 290mm
Mast height - 1130mm above the deck.
Maintaining the simplicity and convenience of a Uni rig , easy to transport , easy to rig , & no guys .
Result was : - a new look, light wind, high aspect ratio - "Slim Nip".

Very quiet as well, - mind you, couldn't hear much anyhow with a road milling machine working at the end of the pond about 150m away, at around 80db where I was!!😠😠😠😭 Of course it would have to be there today,! something like this always stuffs my plans up, cars, trucks, screeching seagulls, people talking to you while you are trying to make a nice quiet video etc etc. Can't seem to get away from noise. Added to that, the video's crap,- as soon as it uploads to YT it turns to rubbish,- was quite acceptable till then.
Must be the wide format they use, as it's fine in a small screen (ie YT preview) and my computer. Worst thing is, it took an hour to load this rubbish on a fibre connection!! Not loading any more till I get a better camera, "Santa, did you hear that ?"😁
I might de-power it a bit, as it has too much power really,- might put 2 540 45T motors in which will run on 2s nicely with 30mm props (has 35s at the moment) and not be as touchy on the throttle. You can steer this just using the throttles it's so bitey. Spins on the spot like a jet boat as well. Stereo worked well, but the IR remote doesn't like working too far away in bright sunlight, (have a separate vid, but YT would give a copyright warning, so I won't put that up) The vid is garbage, but you'll get the idea😁

Thank you Doug and Stephen for your help in getting the video to work. The stills give little idea of any movement but the video shows she was really trucking! Ed

This model yacht is a first "scratch" built RC yacht belonging to "full size" sailor Chris Gay.
Naiad is seen here undergoing her maiden voyage at the Pavilion Gardens Buxton in the company of Grahams - "ELLEN" the Bristol Cutter.
