As with casting bullets, in US, go to small scrap dealer, and ask for roof relief lead. It's the lead tube used to allow a sewer relief pipe to penetrate the roof. Roofers collect used lead and sell to scrap dealer. Lead is pure, easy to melt (another story) and retails for about $1.00/lb in US. Melting lead is pretty dangerous, read up and be cautious. ๐

๐ Question. What is special about this model in your opinion?

While I'm just a beginner, your question about lifeboats raises the question if the boats in these photos could be put in the water. Are the davits facing the wrong way? Also, separately, where the driver? I see a bridge but no provisions for the operators. Isn't it normal to have a operating position? Redcatcher

Very nice printed parts. Can you not use a different system to give rudder control? Beautiful model. kb

For Jordan: (note 2) Here I can get 1/8" "Luan" 3 ply, fairly cheap for a 4 x 8 sheet, at the DIY. Luan is a cheap form of mahogany, and is disappearing. Beware of substitutes, such as pear, balsa is expensive and hard to find here. Look up strip canoe construction, almost like our boats. Adapt. Did this help? Kirby ๐

For Jordan I see your "vertical" strips (sheet) construction and ask what did plans say? Self design ?, you might us lighter construction, 1/8 or 1/4 ply for bh and 1/8 ply / balsa for planking. Use flat sheets (3") when possible but go down to 3/8 or 1/2" wide strips of 1/8 on compound curves. I use gorilla glue (brown) because it foams, but it does take 1 hr. You could use electric glue gun to tack weld joints until you use permanent glue. If using balsa, use pins to assist holding. (note 1)

๐ Wiring led

LEDs must have a dropping resistor, to keep them from destroying themselves by overdrawing .02 ma, each. Three LEDs, in series, will have a different size dropping resistor, than a single one. As to series or parallel connection, all in parallel, could be dropped by one resistor, of a slightly higher wattage(usually not a issue), mostly a decision on how complicated the plan becomes. Someone mentioned using a diode, did they really have a diode? A diode has a drop of about 1 1/2v, no resistance, and isn't a help in this decision. Does this help? kb
