Solved the problem yesterday, of how to carry 2 TXs. I hung them by their handles on the stand handle, and held them in place with a bungee cord, with a clip on the end to clip onto the TX handle. The bungee cord/s go down to the frame behind the TX/s.

I would only usually be using one TX for the barge and boat, but would need another TX for a vehicle. I can now carry the boat, TXs and barge (with left hand) quite easily, without the risk of anything breaking.

"Next thing you will be modifying a rucksack and carrying everything on your back LOL!!"
    Don't laugh Martin.
That's exactly the way I took my TX, spare batteries, tools and odds and ends like a small multimeter to the lake for years. Not forgetting a large beach towel - after my 'wet' experience several years ago!๐Ÿค” Keeps the hands free to carry things like my 4.5 foot destroyer๐Ÿ˜‰
Didn't have to modify it though.
Rucksack (in NATO olive green) was found by my dear Gisela โค๏ธ and it was introduced as a business gift for our Tactical Radio Group.
I was given one of the first examples to evaluate. Sometimes it's good to be 'at the source'๐Ÿ˜
Just before Lockdown commenced I bought a collapsible wagon, such as JB shows below.
Not tested yet - life COVID and illness got in the way. Maybe this spring?
    Cheers, Doug๐Ÿ˜Ž

I've added a stern light and powered the the lights with a 900mah 2.7v NimH battery housed in the aux cabinet, with the servo battery, RX and ramp servo.

The transport stand is finished. Coated with preservative resin and painted, and a 25mm ally tube handle fitted (dowel a was a lot dearer and heavier) and wrapped with macramรฉ cord for a grip (wound it on with the lathe).

Just have to work out a plan of how to carry this pile๐Ÿ˜ (plus maybe 2 TXs and a camera) all in one go.

Could buy one of these Graham, (lots of different types just fresh in) but where do you carry it, (roof rack maybe?) Sides come off which is handy. Think I'll have to sell the cars and buy a ute or a van๐Ÿ˜

These are like a later version of the famous US 'little red wagon'๐Ÿ˜ --check the original price from the NZ importer! ( NZ dollars) Those wheels are Chinese rubbish with tyres which go flat all the time ( I have a bin full,- $13 ea). Whole thing is probably made in China anyhow! Cheaper to buy a copy with a plastic tray at $NZ 158. I have a wheelbarrow so don't really need one

Made a start on fitting the nav lights I've just made, (light boards and LEDs) They are mounted near the bow, and the wiring is run to the stern through flexible 3mm PVC garden irrigation tubing, to keep it from being damaged. The wiring will enter the rear of the aux cabinet via a slot like the ramp cables, and be powered by a 3v battery. A stern light will be added also.

I'm also in the process of making a transport stand for carrying the towboat any great distance, (have to carry things around 200m to the small estuary I use). I have just painted it with preservative resin, and when it's dry, I'll throw some paint at it. The 2 arms will have an aluminium tube between them for a handle (already have the 25mm holes bored for the tube) I tried it out before I made the holes, using a broom handle, and it works well. The arms can be folded down to make it easy to stand it on end for storage if needed.

Hi Peter, if one is brighter than the other, I usually just dull it with some acrylic artists paint (I use Reeves (UK). I've used resistors in the past to balance lights. I think it can be due to the quality of the LED as well, as some can be a bit wishy washy in the colours. I'm just using trimmed down Xmas lights (tops painted black)and they have been quite good so far colour wise, (they are clear bodied can shaped flat top LEDs) I use a cheap VR board to run them at 3V.

The solid coloured LEDs seem to be a nicer colour than the clear bodied LEDs.

Due to the weather not playing game, (supposed to be summer, but apart from about 3 decent days in the last month, it's been storms, wind, rain, overcast looking like rain etc) I decided to add a few more features while I'm waiting, Added the fuel tank on the aux cabinet, and some H&S warning stripes on the ramp and rear upstand.

The barge fell off the table the other day, and bounced off the rear stbd corner. Cracked the glass a bit but no other damage, (the beauty of foam) All repaired in about 10 mins, (poke the cracked bits in, 5min epoxy and a paint touch up). Lucky it wasn't a balsa hull, might have been more serious.

    Still some lights to add.

Tank tested the barge today and tried loading the RC jeep (weighs 1.8kg). Barge barely moved, so can obviously take a lot more, (will be much better loading from the shore). Once I figure out how to get a truckload of boat, barge, 2 TXs and maybe the vehicle down to my estuary spot, and have a nice day again with no wind (rare), it will be time for business.

    Hi JB,

    Great progress on the barge.

I hear what you are saying, I would have to say I don't agree with a lot of things the government of my home country does and shipping people out who have lived here all their life is not good.

    Cheers,
    Stephen.

Hi Peter, re crime, - depends which area you are in (like most countries) upper top half of the Nth island has a lot of gang activity (low socio economic area) as well as south Auckland. Had a spate of ram raids in Auckland lately, especially jewellery stores, with some guys even driving into a mall, and another lot of armed scumbags, robbing a jewellery store in a busy mall in broad daylight recently.

Mostly young guys doing it for gangs, the police suspect, (like an entry test) some as young as 12. Australia just shipped a load of really bad gang members and crims back here under a new policy, where if they have been there for a while, (even born there, have jobs and family there) and haven't applied for citizenship. They come here with no jobs, or sometimes no family, and get straight back into crime here. Thanks Aust๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ‘Ž Unfortunately we don't reciprocate, and allow their scumbags to stay.

Anything else is petty crime or opportunistic, so you don't leave things sitting unattended Like many countries. Never used to be like that, but it's getting worse due to unemployment, lack of discipline at home and schools and growth of gangs, who target young people to do their dirty work for them. Still not that bad though,- seems worse due to the small population.

Trying the fit, ๐Ÿ˜ just seeing how the barge will connect to the towboat, and what position will be needed for best alongside towing. Might need a couple more bollards near the center to tie it correctly. Towing with a bridle from the front shouldn't be a problem (unless the amount of steering is inadequate) It will be fun trying it out.

    Update,- pipes now painted

Aux cabinet painted and exhaust made (for the aux hydraulic pump for the ramp if you were wondering) Started on some cargo as well, made from vitamin tubes with the ends trimmed off, (Martin will like that๐Ÿ˜)- to be painted yet. Tow ropes made as well, from macramรฉ cord, stained with a black acrylic in water, dried and rot/waterproofed with turps and Dubbin mixture.

About ready for the tank test, (if it will stop raining and these storms, - tail ends of cyclones in the pacific) will bu--er off. Might add a few more small things as I think of them, cargo items etc, (nothing is really finished๐Ÿ˜)

Ramp is now painted and RX and battery positions sorted. Ramp has a coat of epoxy timber sealer/preservative, and painted with the same metal primer as the deck. Aux cabinet also has the sealer, but with a white Zinsser B.I.N primer on top. Cabinet will be painted yellow. A few more bits to paint, and probably lights to fit. then into the tank it goes.

We have another cyclone heading down the Pacific, so not sure how bad it will be. Just finished a whole week of rain and storms, with up to 80kph gusts in the gulf and big swells. We had 1 day on Sunday with 28deg temps and full sun out of the blue, now back to stormsโ˜น๏ธ Supposed to be summer! Note in the pic, there are guys out wing foiling a few days before, in a 40mph wind,-insane!

The wind on the main beach deposited sand on the road 100m away. It was like a Sahara sandstorm, had to hose the car off when I got home. Last pic is a strange event which happened in about 10 mins, from 20 miles visibility to this, (like smoke from a giant forest fire) - a sign of something coming.

Thousands of people out on Sunday, and the usual estuary pollution. These kids will not get out of the way of boats coming in and out, (impeding progress of a power boat is a serious offence under the marine dept rules, not to mention dangerous) but who cares right? nobody to enforce it, and parents encourage it. The blue jet ski (driven by a woman) was doing 30-40 mph, laps backwards and forwards in front of the bridge 10 mins earlier,- 5 knot speed limit!! Lucky all the people were still on the sand bank.

The ramp is now working, and using a std old HK MG 5KG servo for pull. Unfortunately I have to use another TX for the barge (old HK 6ch) as it's either that with a cheap 6ch RX for only 1 channel (at the moment) or a more expensive 9X 9ch RX which would be a waste. I only have one rotary sw left on the 9X which I'm using for the boat, so could us it if necessary.

I'm building a machinery compartment at the stern as well, to hide the servo, battery and RX. I've built a waterproof (hopefully) coaming round the radio gear, and the compartment will fit over it..

I've now rigged up the ramp lifting gear, it has a spring preload to assist the servo which will be fitted aft(only needs about 400g of effort to lift it) I've also made more cleats, and decals for 'Boris' and the towboat, (towboat number is from the boat which inspired me to build the model.)

Hi Peter, thanks,- we've been experiencing storm conditions the last week, barely stopped raining the entire time, (I measured 71kph + gusts down the beach on Wed, huge waves etc. Calmed down a bit today, but still misty,- unusual for this time of year. Gives me time to finish 'Boris' before we get back to good weather, (hopefully). I'll do some load testing in the tank first.
