Dave and I agreed that today was not going to be a lifeboat day so my Aero Naut Classic and Daveโ€™s Fairey Huntsman and cabin cruiser had a trip out. My DF65 also got its keel wet but I didnโ€™t get pictures of that.

I was with friends at Hoylake boating lake yesterday and one of them has a Fairey Huntsman kit to build without instructions. Does Dave have the build instructions for his by any chance, such that he could share the information with us? So his kit can be built without too much guess work.

I need to stay off the internet, LOL
Noticed an ad for an Estate Sale. I went, I looked, and found (i.e. bought).
The Midwest Rowing Dinghy, Canadian Canoe, and Chesapeake Double Kayak are all nice boats.
They will look nice in a Diarama or just on display in my Home Office or Family Room.
I plan to do some work on the Cranberry Isle Lobster Yacht. It was not built/finished to run.
I'd like to open it up and put running gear and electronics in it to make it a working RC.
The front opens to access where the motor and electronics would go, but the rear is sealed tight with no access to attach a servo to the rudder.
Does anybody know where I could download the plans/instructions for this boat? I would like to see how the rear is constructed before attacking it.
    Thanks for the help!
    Dave B

I hope that this helps; the plans show the rudder servo forward of the frame but I think it is better close to the rudder control arm. I use a NiMH battery laying beside the stuffing box and a counter weight on the opposite side. The original builder put a Y battery harness in so the boat could run off of two batteries for a longer duration. I just use one so as to give the brushed motor a rest .

Thanks to everyone who offered advice and encouragement.
I got bold enough to add a little (gentle) force, in an effort to access the area behind the rear seat.
The seat and hatch behind it were glued in.
I used a razor blade to trace the opening, in an effort to release any varnish that may have been holding it.
That did not work, so I "encouraged" the rear seat to come loose, and applied some leverage to the hatch.
I got both of them free without a lot of collateral damage, I may need to add some moulding around the hatch opening.
BUT ... I successfully opened up the area where the shaft for the rudder is located.
I feel much more confident that RC conversion will be successful now!

Yeah, everything on the rear of the boat is stuck/glued tight.

Itโ€™s got a latch behind the rear seat that swivels. Itโ€™s in the plans I photographed.

    Ottawa is the proper spelling.

    What year is your Miata?

Iโ€™m going to Scotland in August on the 27th so be sure you are here before then.

    Well, Ronald .....
As it happens We are going on an extended road trip with our Miata Club in August, for a Miata meet in Ottawa.
We will be in Thunder Bay 8/11, Sudbury 8/12, Ottowa 8/13-8/19, and then heading south to the states and west towards home.
The route for the trip home is not cast in stone, yet. So ... be careful what you offer, LOL
    Best Regards,
    Dave B
PS, I can see where the hatch is/should be behind the rear seat. However I'm not sure if it is glued or just varnished in, but I have pried lightly and it is not coming out. That is one of the reasons I'd like to lay eyes on the build instructions ....

Behind the back seat is a hatch in the deck. The rear seat should come out. If not then look at these photos.

If I had the opportunity to alter the model, it would be to use two brushed 350โ€™s making it twin screws.

I bought this boat in reasonable condition five years ago from an estate sale. The original geared 540 brushed motors were rusted beyond repair, so I replaced them with a pair of 2830 1000kv brushless motors, running off a pair of 6 cell NiMH packs.
I use a transmitter mix to allow the model to rotate on the spot and perform scale-like docking manoeuvres.

I could try ice breaking with my Graupner Glasgow, but I suspect it would make like a duck and waddle drunkenly over the ice! The ice in our pond is not thick enough to support a man's weight, but when I lived in Finland, a group of us who flew model planes would drive out onto a frozen lake and fly - we even lit barbecues on the ice to cook the fish we caught there. It was a bit colder there than it is in the UK, often -25 to -35 degrees centigrade.

Now, That was funny ... but I dunno ... have you ever walked out into the freezing cold water of a pond to rescue a stuck boat? Do you think a paddle tug would do a better job of smashing the ice? Any way, I smashed that like button!!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

I have often thought that I should research tank landing craft designs to see if I can combine my interest with 1/16 scale r/c model tanks
