I'll have to try brushless motors in some of my fast scale boats. I only have one brushless powered model at present, this being the Proboat Blackjack 29 fast electric.
Kit built but I scrapped the plywood for mahogany as I wanted something in the "Riva" Style.
Powered by a 1000kv brushless on 11.1v, its quick across the water and very stable.
BRAVO ZULU! Nice boat, it reminds me of my brother's 13' 1956 Penyan that he completely restored back in the 90s. Love the mahogany btw.

Not known,but he knows and congratulated me at a show for putting the talus back to how it was,he is on another site in which I have put photo images on and he likes what he see's
Will be put on display for the first time on sat/sun 2/3 July at a show in Newark,will have talus tractor connected and an overall length of 9ft,then when I get back from show I will put electrics in then put her on the water

Wahine was a car passenger ferry of the Union Steamship Co. of New Zealand, and completed by Fairfields in 1966. She was lost in a major storm in the Cook Strait in 1968 with the death of 53 people. The model is substantially scratch-built with some fittings purchased. it is driven by two Graupner Speed 500 motors powered from two 6.6V 3200mAh LiFe batteries. it is fitted with twin stern and a single bow rudders, and bow and stern thrusters as on the original. The smoke effect is provided by a Steam Master Unit.

Having installed the running gear I just had to try it out. The boat is about half the weight it should be so ballast is something I will have to add. But lots more to do yet

The reason it can pivot pretty much in its own length is because it is fitted with a bow thruster.
In this case it's a Raboesch model
The two main motors are Emax BL4030 brushless motors running with Hobbyking 90 amp escs. I power these with two 5 cell lipos batteries in parallel.
The Raboesch bow thruster has a brushed motor rated at 7.2 volts and this runs through an esc for brushed motors. (I was lucky to have one ready after I converted one of my boats to a brushless motor). I power the bow thruster with a 7.2 volts nimh battery pack again left over after going to brushless and lipo batteries.

Hi Les, fantastic job on your lifeboat! I'm thinking I'd like to build a pilot boat, maybe the one from aeronaut. as long as the model is made of plastic I'm good anything else and I'm lost! hope you don't mind but I think I'll put a bow thruster in mine also.
Here's the photos of the cord coming through the middle of the crane, connected to the sail winch on the bottom end. The bracket to get it to go round 90 degrees had to be modified as it started jamming with no weight on the hook, now a piece of bent tube cut in half as a channel.
This is another step forwards!
All the electronic parts arrived last week! The good news is they are all working and I knew how to assembly thanks to the info I found in this website!

To be honest, I don't know. The company I work has supplied the resin and the fibreglass cloth. They told me that is the best one for what I need, so I believe at they said. I will try to find out what is the weight cloth and let you know!
Finished my first boiler with home made engine and reversing valve small leak on main steam valve still to cure but other than that all is well. Am I a happy bunny!

Crane story part 3! Now that the jib raised and lowered, I had to tackle rotating the turret. I canibilsed a radar setup I'd made (again from helicopter parts after a crash!) to rotate the turret. Video of the radar motor in operation shown.
Crane story continued.. once the swash plate was connected via servo arms to the jib, I had to develop an arm to control them from a servo - pics attached. Once the bracket was attached to the servo, it allowed the jib to move up and down, whilst the turret rotated. I then had to work out how to rotate the turret! More photos to follow..
As the turret is mounted on a hollow tube, this allows the cord to run through the middle of the crane, over the jib and down to the hook, and on the other end, attached to a sail winch so that the hook can be raised and lowered. Will add pics in a sec.
