The coupling is Silicon tube fitted to brass universal coupling fittings and because the way brushless run is very quiet compared to a normal Unversal Joint assembly. Will post it running shortly. Thanks for you interest. Graham

- BOATSHEDCaptainIt's nice and fast but doesn't seem to want to turn very well. What is the rudder like is it too big and also how much leading edge has the rudder got. I used to have this sort of trouble and went for a slightly smaller rudder and cut away the leading edge and it solved my problems. It's nice and fast but doesn't seem to want to turn very well. First sail 16-12-2012 Cwmbran. First fitted a too powerful Outrunner with a small rudder no good would not steer or go straight. so changed outrunner to a lower rated one about 1200 kVA and fitted a larger rudder (medium size as opposed to a small one). The result was very good and she ran all morning on a 2 x 4.8 Volt 3800 MAh Nimh in series 9.6V total, for about 2 hours.
- jonbliss152Master SeamanHi, I'm currently in the process of building my first model. it's one of my fathers that has been sat in the loft, kit form for 30 odd years. I have the decals to turn it into a fire boat but I'm struggling to find a suitable monitor to place on the coach house roof. Can you remember where yours came from?Hi, I'm currently in the process of building my first model. it's one of my fathers that has been sat in the loft, kit form for 30 odd years. - jelley_babyChief Petty Officer 1st ClassHi, it's not a proper monitor on the cabin roof, but the spray nozzle from an air freshener the type that are battery powered and spray one burst every 15 minutes. I suppose that you could attach a small pipe to it and make it into a working monitor if you wanted too. Hope that this helps Graham.👍Hi, it's not a proper monitor on the cabin roof, but the spray nozzle from an air freshener the type that are battery powered and spray one burst every 15 minutes. - sharpy1071Chief Petty Officer 2nd ClassHI there thanks for your kind comments, I bought this camera from Hobby King for about £20.00 last xmas, it works really good in aircraft as well. On Sunday I thought I had it switched on, and then sailed through the fleet for about 45 minutes, but no I had press the button twice, hence switched it off. The batteries were getting low when this was filmed thats why the shortness of the film, I was just concerned to get the boat back before I ran out of electricty. For a bit of cheap fun I would recommend one because you can see your lake from a different angle, if any of you fly that is really good fun. Thanks BrianHI there thanks for your kind comments, I bought this camera from Hobby King for about £20.00 last xmas, it works really good in aircraft as well. - sharpy1071Chief Petty Officer 2nd ClassHI Ian, yes Phil did start from a very young age. If your going to I of W it's worth calling into Westbourne Models on the way that's if your going along the coast. If your going brushless be warned that the ESC's are a lot of money. I would recommend the Graupner one. I have one and cannot fault it. its a bit strange to program at first but once I got use to it no probs. You can have it for planes, cars, helicopters or boats, it changes the start up differently, I had nothing but trouble with some cheap ones until I went to Westbourne emptied my wallet and put it in my Huntsman by Precedent, the slow speed is fantastic you have so much control and when you open it up it is smooth. I put a water jacket on it and it is always cool no matter how I drive the boat. if you do go to Westbourne let me know, if you like, and you could come in for a drink (tea!) would like to meet you, speak to you soon, Brian

- sharpy1071Chief Petty Officer 2nd ClassHI Ian, thanks. As regards LIPOs I use Turnigy 2200 $40-40c Discharge. I have doubled them up in the boat 4400 11.1v. So good capacity, no more power. No problems with the brushed engines. On my Veron Huntsman, 52" again, with a brushless no problems, but I have used 20-25c discharge and they puffed up, I can still use them on low powered aircraft, flying time is just down a tad. So get the biggest mAh battery you can afford, with the biggest discharge available you shouldn't have any problems, just don't get salt water near them. As far as costs a re concerned go for reputable supplier, I only use Turnigy, in the early days I used various suppliers but I was Ignorant and did most of the damage myself!! so I can't blame the battery, but I do know that Turnigy are pretty bullet proof, but if you want a recommendation I would go for A123's but make sure you can charge them from your existing charger, (LIFE4 is how I charge mine), good luckHI Ian, thanks. Brian - ianed57Sub-LieutenantThanks for the info Brian- just gathering as much info and opinion as I can before I part with hard earned cash. The Turnigy Lipos seem to get mainly favourable reviews and they seem a bit cheaper than some. I suppose in the end I shall just have to try some and see what happens. Not sure whether my charger would charge A123's- I'd need to check- it's a Sigma intelligent Charger- pretty standard I think. Thanks for the info Brian- just gathering as much info and opinion as I can before I part with hard earned cash. - ianed57Sub-LieutenantBrian,Brian, Ouch! Sounds a bit expensive. On the advice of Dave M on this forum I bought myself a wattmeter and it certainly takes the guesswork out. I went through three esc's on my Lesro Sportsman before I got it right- hopefully! Also spent a good deal of time anxiously waiting for my Rapier to drift back to shore after it popped a fuse- twice. Now I know what the limits are and I just didn't have a big enough fuse in. I'm having just what you describe with batteries being too far astern- I'm going out Monday to try them in the middle of the boat. Also hoping to get some LiPos when I have decided on a make. Hope the new motors and fans work out and that you get some good shots on the water eventually. All the best...Ian

All the best...Ian - sharpy1071Chief Petty Officer 2nd ClassHI Ian, well the original motors came from a discount store, £2.00 each from memory, they work Ok in my USS Crokett, but I have no glazing and the hot air can escape! I think the sequence went like got hot, melted fan, fan fell off, jammed Motor, fuse blew. I couldn't get any water cooling pre bent from Westbourne so will make my own tomorrow. I have opened up the funnel a bit more on the side and place louvres over the hole, I will get a photo. I did use LIPOs (turnigy 3cell 3500) but now have gone over to A123's much better I have 3 in series X 3 in parellel Giving 6600 MAmps @ 10.4volts.These are very safe batteries, almost unbreakable, I use them in my planes they weigh a little more than LIPOs but a lot less than Gel cells about a quarter and can be forces charged but you would have to sail all day to flatten them. The first photo shows the boat as it was bought from an E Bay auction in late February for the price of 14.50, for that price I had to bid on it, even thought I had a new kit of the same model on order from a model shop from the end of December, before VAT went up. The models turned out to be the 4 feet versions some 11 inch wide and now is about 19 inch high. This model turned up several days before the new kit turned up, and was a bit worse for ware than anticipated as the deck had started to part company from the hull. After stripping the deck of all remaining deck furniture the deck was re laminated to the hull, prop shafts and rudder tubes also refitted using plenty of resin and cloth. A rubbing strip was fitted around the deck hull line to tidy up the visible damage. When I was happy with repairs the hull and deck was rubbed down and sprayed. Using the information in the new kit and some photos of actual boats, MJB's (My junk boxes) supplied all the required parts to scratch build 90% of the models fittings as seen, this includes the figures on the deck. These being obtained off an EBay site as 1/24 unpainted train scene figures that required some or may be a lot of adjustments to their appearance. Several items have still to be made and fitted. As I'm working on her sister boat P147, will make extra parts in one go.
The boat has twin electric drives, the motors, MFA 919D series, are fitted with their own 2.5/1 gearboxes and they drive 40 mm three bladed conta rotating brass props. They have independent 15 amp Electonize speed controllers run from two 7.2 volt packs in series. The switching arrangements for lighting has still to be finished off. Don't know if I'll fit a sound system as the boat is for my grandson.
The boat has had several trips on the Society's water at Cwmbran with myself and my grandson at the helm. it seems to go fast enough for him. (The new boat P147 has been built with triple screws.) Can't wait to see both models on the water together.
Hope you have enjoyed the pictures and information.

- LylePetty Officer 2nd ClassHI harleydreaml, still looking at your Aerokits Torpedo boat and it is a very nice model from a colonials perspective. if I live long enough I may be lucky to obtain a set of copies of the hull formers and keel for a build . I have the Hebert Adams book of his model boats which he later led to his model boat kit company 'Adamcraft' and he did a set of drawings of a/the Elco type Torpedo Boat in his book. I always wondered whether the Aerokits EVER BORROWED the drawings to make the commercial model? Whatever happened, it is nice to see such a stunner model which was not too populace as the Crash Boat/Sea Queen sales etc. A now passed away mate had one 20 /30 years ago with a I/c 25/30? and it planed and turned flat and nicely. in OZ we still CAN operate I/c easy and do not need to trail out an electric cable for power to get more than 5 minutes on the pond? Keep building good craft. - Dave MVice AdmiralHI HarleyHI Harley I recently acquired a model that looks very similar to your model. Its all wood hulled about 3ft by 7ins. I was on the point of dispatching to the tip as it is so heavy I didn't think I could ever make it go on the plane. However having seen your Aerokits box and model its possible this may be an original or copy. Construction is very similar to the Fire Tender inside. Any chance that you could post a picture of your model with the lid off? Model looks the business in action.

p28 fast patrol boat you get hull and plan the rest is up to the builder it is twin shafts twin rudders one speed controller a jel 6v 7amp battery AND two
545 motors
It was built as a fun boat so I could sail with my friend Peter thomas with his variuos boats.
Several things have now been added since this boat was first built, IE smoking stacks, fireing torpedoes and magnetic pickups for colecting them. Also has working radar/moving gun + a home built bec.
Flag poles and flags/compas has been added on the superstructure.
Each motor draws 6amps at full power, I have measured the speed from one point to another at a spacing of 60mtrs, and timed at 15 seconds, but this is a bit fast for this boat as she starts to plane out of the water.
We sail her at New Brighton lake on the wirral most wednesdays. As the weather is now a bit cool I have just purchased a simular model to this at 1:48 scale 110ft island class USCG Patrol boat so I can look at them both in action when the weather picks up. Anyone wanting info can contact me via this website.
