Question of the Day?

Well ,as far as I have learnt over the years it means nothing in particular, albeit that it is commonly known as 'save our souls'. I believe it was invented not as an acronym but as something that is easy to remember and also (in the days when morse code was king) could be easily transmitted whether by radio waves or other means.

I guess AI never built a model boat. I have been a scratch builder for 60 years, I have used all 4 of those saws.

Question of the Day?

Question is about USS Arizona is awful!

That ship was sunk in the heinous attack on Pearl Harbor. Many men and women were killed.

The ship is a solemn war memorial to those people who gave their lives. It is not a recreation scuba diving site.

If you go there, there is a list of the people who were killed. On the list, there are three people with the same name. It is a father and two sons.

AI needs to drop this question from its list.

Another being that the other three were sunk either during, or just before the First World War.

Question of the Day?

The answer to today’s question is the only possible wrong answer. A war grave cannot be a “popular” dive site.

Question of the Day?

Blackbeard, whose real name was Edward Teach, commanded a ship known as the Queen Anne’s Revenge. This ship was originally a French slave ship named La Concorde before Blackbeard captured and modified it in 1717 12. The Queen Anne’s Revenge was a formidable frigate, equipped with up to 40 cannons3, making it one of the most powerful pirate ships of its time. My AI is smarter than your AI

Question of the Day?

and yet another question I cannot answer for lack of an appropriate choice.
So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.

Question of the Day?

I rest my case it is a platform close to the sea to make easy access to the water .

Question of the Day?

I would say on average and as it is only found on yachts it is an unusual item to find on a boat. My son has one built in on his yacht and it is very pleasant to sit on and have a 'foot dangle' on a nice day. It is surprising at what seems cold you soon get used to and then drop in for a swim.

Swimming around the yacht makes you realise how big they are.
Tragically a friend and keen yachtsman fell into the water around November time, there was no one with him and he had no means of getting onto the yacht. A swim board would have saved his life!

He died of hyperthermia and was found next day and that was in a UK marina.

Question of the Day?

Very strange question today. I got it right by sheer luck. I always thought it was called the "Poop Deck" but then it realised it said "raised platform" and not deck. I don't think Sir Francis Drake had a swim platform.🤣

Question of the Day?

Although I got this one correct. It's only because we have had the same conversation when it first appeared as a question. However when you look at the question it does ask for the "highest point" on a ship or boat. The mast is not the highest point, the "top" of the mast is the highest point and that wasn't an option in the answers. Most look out points/crows nests have spars above them and sometimes a "topgallant" so even the crows nest is not right. I still think the AI needs to get back to school. 😂

Question of the Day?

My son reported that the anemometer on his yacht had failed. It is at the pinacle of the mast and apparently a bird had been pecking at the the electric wiring . Whether this was from a birds nest I do not know.

However we were stopped from sailing for a few days as another bird had chosen to raise a couple of chicks just inside the open end of the sail-boom.
Suddenly they were gone and normal sailing resumed.

Question of the Day?

According to the National Centers for Environmental Information (and others):
Magnetic declination (sometimes called magnetic variation) is the angle between magnetic north and true north. Declination is positive when this angle is east of true north and negative when it is west. Magnetic declination changes over time, and with location. Declination value is needed to determine true north, because compasses point toward magnetic north.
Whereas:
The term for the angle between the magnetic north and the direction of a ship's course is called "magnetic course"; the difference between the magnetic north and the ship's course is considered the "magnetic deviation" which is caused by the ship's own magnetic field affecting the compass reading.

AI is wrong again, which drives my score even lower .... sigh
