Question of the Day?

Now I’m convinced that some answers are words or phrases that have different meanings or usage depending on if you live on the US side of the Atlantic or the European. In the US haul-out is used, if not universally close to it, to describe removing any non trailered boat from the water. You haul-out as part of hurricane prep, maintenance, or storage at the end of the season. Recovery or retrieval means to salvage a damaged or sunken vessel.

Question of the Day?

I just lost 4% as I went for retrieval. It was a toss up between that and recovery, I would never have gone for haulout. Even when I went through the ownership of my 3 different boats, my brother and me we both used the two words between us, recovery and retrieval. Never haualout. Maybe even winch it out. OH well there we go again. -%.

Question of the Day?

When I remove a boat from the water it is a toss up whether I achieve it or join the boat in the wet.
A bit of a strange question really.

I went sailing boats yesterday and after retrieving the 2 fishing boats found that one was knee deep (in a scale way) in water inside.
So got to find out where it has come from. Well I know where it came from, more a case of how it got in! The other one was bone dry.

Question of the Day?

Me I just took a guess and plumbed for The Mediterranean.
Lucky guess it put my % up from 86 to 90.
I might just loose it again in the next day or so though.
Who knows with the way it goes on here.

Question of the Day?

"Another one with distorted facts, unless you regard Port Morseby as an aircraft carrier. The Australian bombers that were involved came from land bases. Midway is regarded as the first real naval battle fought by aircraft carriers.🤔 "

Actually, the same applies to Midway. Many attacks against the Japanese flew from there...that is why the Japanese wanted it so badly.😀
The correct answer should be: None, they all involoved land based aircraft.

Question of the Day?

The Battle of the Coral Sea was fought with Aircraft Carriers and Planes in MAY 1942 one month before the Battle of Midway June 1942. Both of these battle with Aircraft Carriers only lasted a few days. Once again I only know a few navy facts due to my late dear old navy dad. He should never have got into the Navy as he was colour blind. He never did tell us how he done it all I know is that him and his best mate and what became my Uncle both went together when they went to sign up.

Question of the Day?

The wreck found off Haiti in 2003 was thought to be the Santa Maria. Three of the possible answers were the usual suspects so even if you did not know the answer Mr Tench’s flagship stands out even though the location is wrong.

Question of the Day?

Rudy,
Rhode Island is the smallest state, only 1545 square miles (500 of that is water surface) in size.
By comparison, Connecticut is 5018 square miles.
My home state of Minnesota is a "whopping" 86,943 square miles. LOL

So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.

Question of the Day?

Terra Firma???
I Have spent many hours out on a boat sea fishing mostly at Newhaven, sometimes at Deal. Getting off of a boat after 10 to 12 hours, even so called Terra Firma still seems to move about.
Mind you if I wasn't catching fish or I didn't have something to focus my eyes on I used to get pretty sea sick. My dad used to say he was ashamed of me, " Son of a Navy man sea sick, was not a good example". I would reply "Not my fault should have given birth to me out on a ship after all mum was a Wren"🤣🤣

Question of the Day?

I was a drinking man and port is a tipple not to be underestimated. So if others objected to me drinking I saw red!
Sometime afterwards I would feel a bit green and find myself back in the gutter looking up at the stars. Then the only way is up!!!!

Mind you sometimes I can't remember where I am anyway, then it is any port in a storm.

Getting confused about the green light? Heres a way to remember it. You GO to the Stars. So green is GO and the Starboard is where all the stars are pinned.
