Question of the Day?

Hi all trying to catch up as still 80 of these emails to go! I have had a mini-stroke, then a guts problem and then had a gall bladder removed, home now, or at least back to my son's house in Australia.

3 hospital admissions and 10 days in-side, but now some what nackered, hospitals very good here and the medical attention excellent and quick as well. It does help that my daughter in law is a Doctor/consultant in one of them, she says a good bottle of wine can move mountains!
Hope the rest of you are coping well.
Testing brain with son and I can still beat him at Crib!
Regards
Roy

Question of the Day?

Well after reading up about all of the people in the options I ruled out Sir William Petty but should have realised it was him as he had an interest in naval architecture. Samuel Pepys was in the British admiralty so I chose him. Interesting thing is Samuel Pepys and Sir William Petty knew each other. John Harrison invented the marine chronometer and Sir Francis Drake was a privateer. I like questions like this because it increases your knowledge while doing the investigation work 😀

Question of the Day?

Todays question is total rubbish, the only sailing rig that I have seen with a raked mast are cats and trimarans. Never a sloop, cutter or ketch. Furthermore the only difference between a sloop and a cutter is that one has two foresails.

Question of the Day?

Hi Boatshed,
The %age is calculated over a 30 day period.
So it's not just the current, day 30 or front end, answer that matters.
What happens at the back end, day 1, also counts.
If you add a correct answer at the front and a correct answer drops off the back then there's no change. QED.
I'm in the same boat, having recently cocked up some sailing answers. As usual🙄
So I'll be stuck on 90%, 27/30 assuming correct answers, until the wrong answers work through to the back and drop out of the calculation.
Can take up to 3 or 4 weeks😐
Cheers, Doug🤓

Question of the Day?

Can anyone explain the % scoring on the Question of the Day.
I had a score of 90%, I got 1 QoD wrong and it dropped down to 86%.
I have answered 8 QoD's correct on the trot and I am still at 86%.
How does it work ???

Simple sailor you are still at your Mothers breast when i havé a look at your age !!! For européens thé english is thé most simple language on earth. I havé been travelling a lot throughout thé UK and when they start talking their local language i couldn’t understand one single word.
Luckely modelboat builders don’t need a language they speak and understand every language . Thé best example is this forum👍👍👍

Question of the Day?

Yes Hermank
Some of us don't have Windows. In fact, I am so old, I don't even have lights. It's Dos 3 and candles. So thinking is a bit of a challenge when it comes to "forrin laughwitches". The problem I have with English, is I never know if it's written in Leeds or Liverpool.

Question of the Day?

Roy,
I'm doing my best to let the UK catch up.
Thanks to AI, I've got more wrong than correct lately .... sigh.
Dave B
So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.

Question of the Day?

Sorry cashrc when I meant behind, not going ahead together but catching up!!!!😊
More thought and I realise we are being duped so not to be!
This is a national thing we are being put in competition by the AI thing. This will not cause disruption to our interests. It is the old divide and rule concept and I nearly fell for it!
We must go forth and fight the evils of AI.

Together we win divided we fall.

Question of the Day?

Well you learn something new every day. My dad who was in the RAF always told me that SOS was "Save Our Souls" so I have never questioned it, but I suppose they had to put some meaning to it. So as the questions and and answers are getting questionable and my average over the past few months has dropped from 93% to now 69% I am thinking of giving up. 😉
