Question of the Day?

GRRRR😠
Planking is NOT the PROCESS OF BENDING!!!!
It is the end product AFTER THE PLANKS HAVE BEEN BENT TO FIT:
The AI has once again proven it's Artificial IDIOCY.
83% vs 17% seems to support this thinking.

Question of the Day?

Are these questions & answers generated by AI? If so given the plethora of incorrect information is it not time for cancelling use of AI? I recognize the time & complexity required for someone to pose a question & provide a thoroughly researched answer; a thankless task to be sure. But this has become highly error prone. I’m not ranting against an individual or individuals since I appreciate their efforts. Maybe the elephant is too big to eat, even taken a bite at a time.
Just my HO. 😔

Question of the Day?

No she didn't Austin.
She capsized onto the Isola del Giglio after hitting rocks. Was later parbuckled upright and towed to Genoa where she was scrapped.
Her Captain must be now into his 9th year of his 16 year sentence for neglect of duty and manslaughter.

Question of the Day?

Maybe so but when the Captain has feet of clay the engineering goes by the board.

Also was this question generated by A.I.? I have heard that AI output can gloss over the facts and make up new ones!

I suppose it is like a youngster seeking attention. I worked at a school for a couple of years as a Learning assistant and occasionally I would hear some extra ordinary claims about parents, and all told in a sincere way.

Question of the Day?

Not exactly a shipwreck Indianapolis was sunk by a Japanese submarine and went down in just 12 minutes, with 300 of her crew going down with the ship. With few lifeboats, many of the remaining 900 faced death by exposure or shark attack until they were spotted three days later by a U.S. Navy patrol plane. By the time they were reached by rescuers, only 317 of the crew of 1,196 aboard were still alive. The Indianapolis was on secret mission to deliver the atom bomb to Tinian, so it's position was not known.

Question of the Day?

“This one I got right and only because I realised it didn't have to refer to nautical navigation. I have a very keen interest in all things that fly as well as boats and my father in law (deceased) taught navigation in the RAF so I have had some good conversations with him.”

One of the flight axioms, comparable to dead reckoning in some respects, is if all the powered instruments fail you better know how to fly needle, ball, & airspeed & get your head out of the cockpit.😁

BTW,totally blew tonight’s question.😠

Question of the Day?

The saying known to mariners is “ Never be far from a good DR!” That’s in case all your electronics tank. Limited value when you’re out of site from land, but at least establish a compass bearing toward safety.
I have a bit of experience with this.

Bill, I came up with the same answer, but I almost picked pilotage. Seems to me they’re interchangeable descriptions, but I have a lot less nautical experience than you and most of the rest on this board.

Question of the Day?

Seems to me that dead reckoning is the correct answer. To me, pilotage is operating your vessel. Maybe a matter of semantics that differ depending on which side of the pond you reside on.

Question of the Day?

Surely whether you're standing on the deck of the boat or on the ground facing the front of a boat, then the left side of the boat is still the same if you think clearly about it. it's the LEFT SIDE of the BOAT, port. I sat and read the question 3 times first then questioned my self and thought about when I used to own my own boat. It was always the same.

Port is always the same side of the boat no matter which way you are standing. The red port light is always on the left hand side of the boat (stern to bow).😊

You know, they could have omitted WHEN FACING THE BOW? I could be facing the bow standin' on the dock.

OR

WHEN STANDING ON THE BOAT AND FACING THE BOW.

Has this been covered earlier?

Duh. I should read more carefully. When facing the bow doesn't mean looking at the bow from the front. The question does assume you are in the boat.😂😂😂
