Hmm!
'Correct' answers have risen to 22% (02:10 CET).

Question of the Day?

Roy,
I say again-
" It is said to have been uttered (FLW) by Archimedes"

Question of the Day?

Roy,
"Nōlī turbāre circulōs meōs!" is a Latin phrase, meaning "Do not disturb my circles!". It is said to have been uttered (FLW) by Archimedes—in reference to a geometric figure he had outlined on the sand—when he was confronted by a Roman soldier during the Siege of Syracuse prior to being killed. Archimedes was summarily executed by a soldier after refusing to turn away from his math problem.

Question of the Day?

As you are quoting Latin I remember an advertising rhyme last seen on 'the tube' as in Metro, advertising wool. They used to change them every few weeks.
Roy

'Quo Vadis?' cried the Palace guard.

'Upstairs!' yelled Nero, running hard.

'My wardrobe must be saved tonight,

Before the looters heave in sight.

Rome's burning brightly now', said Nero,

'But temperatures will drop to zero.

For keeping warm in weather cool,

There is no substitute for wool'.

Save Our Sausages!
Another AI screw up today!😠
What is then meant by 'boating terminology'??
" "SOS" does not actually stand for anything in boating terminology".
B.S. IMHO!😠 Seems most folk agree! 75%.
I believe we had this question before , with the same nonsense answer!

Question of the Day?

Yep Nick,
He was a clever chap, but he got 'screwed' by a Roman soldier in the end☹️ at Syracuse Sicily, not upstate New York! FLW: "Noli turbare circulos meos".

"Eureka!" he cried, running naked down the street.

Came the laconic reply from a bystander-
"You don't smell so good either. Get back in your bath!"

OK OK I was just leaving. 😉 Where's my coat?

Question of the Day?

He also invented baths but no overflow hole in them!
And I seem to remember he was involved with screws as well, but I don't remember who invented the screwdriver.

He was a very principled man was Archimedes. He also invented the first solar powered death ray...

He also designed a giant wooden claw like crane out of ropes, pulleys, and an elaborate lever system that could lift and flip enemy biremes (and even quinqueremes) should the need arise…or so they say. 😉

Question of the Day?

Here is how stupid this question is:
Question is about "your boat"

- is it a radio controlled boat? just drive it to shore.

Maybe it a full scale boat?

Is it a row boat? there is nothing other than a bucket to use.
Is it a dingy? maybe the air went out and you need to fix the hole.
Is it a sunfish ? use a bucket or just wait.
Is it a motor boat? small ones have no bilge pumps. better call the coast guard.
Is is a pontoon boat? there is nothing to bail out on those boats ), just have another drink. You can swim to shore.
Is it a fishing boat ( maybe it is attacked by a giant shark
Is it a tug boat? You are in port, just drive it to shore
Is it a ferry boat? Did you forget to close the ramp?
Is it a submarine ? It is supposed to take on water
Is it an ocean liner ? call for help
Is it a cruise ship? pull into a port first.

or is it the Titanic and you hit an iceberg and nothing short of abandoning ship will do....

When I first saw the question, I thought to myself "what idiot posed this question?"

Since there is really no context, you cant really answer it.

reminds me of Peter Sellers character Inspector Clouseau in the Pink Panther movies asking the person with a dog " Does your dog bite? The person says " No! my dog does not bite! Then when the dog bites, the person says " this is not my dog".

Are we having fun yet?😉

Any of the above, and if your boat is big enough for a pump, then it is not doing the job!

Question of the Day?

What size is my boat? My dinghy is too small for a pump so has a bucket - the yachts I race are too deep for a bucket so have a bilge pump - my model boats are small enough to be tipped upside down and drain any water out!!!!!🤣🤣🤣

Question of the Day?

Referring back to my post 2049, Here are some pictures on board 'The Will'
We are returning and Tower Bridge is opened for us.

Daughter at the wheel, a surprisingly large area.

It was a chilly day and the warmest spot on deck was on the cargo hold which is also above the kitchen. We had sausages and mash and trifle to follow. Tastes even better on the river! There tables for about 2 dozen of us.

The Halfway mark where we went through the Thames Barrier, turned around and came back.

Self bailers are great! The faster you go the quicker the water flowa out. Sailing dingys have them ,ribs have them and most speedboats have them...

Question of the Day?

My Uncle Eddie (the family mad-scientist), who got a Gov. Service Contract building Norden bomb site parts in his garage during WW2, built a self bailing system that required that you kept the boat moving to nearest landfall. But, he always said pumps first, if you had them.

My great grandmother said when he was a kid he took the grate out of the wood stove and put it in the bird bath and wired it the first electrical pole in town and would cook the local bird population, by throwing a jury-rigged lever. He was a brilliant man, albeit pretty strange as well. 😉

Question of the Day?

I have seen this bilge question before.

Are we in a repetitive cycle of reincarnation and deja vu? Not only I've been there before but knowing I am going to do it again?
Is this The Matrix? But are we in it or observing it?

The real 'question of the day'.

That assumes your boat has a bilge pump. Buckets are almost standard equipment on small boats. Just another question where the answer does not reflect the question.

Question of the Day?

I think the Tidal barges were a little larger than some others. I was on the one that was Will Everard a year or so back and also Hydrogen which I think may be a bit larger.
On the Will as it is known now I was allowed to be on the wheel for half an hour on the Thames on a return trip from the Flood Barrier. She is slow to turn and you have to make allowances for it. On Hydrogen she was located on the East coast and we as a club hired her for the day with a buffet meal. It was a good day.
It was engine on all the time with Will but we sailed some off the way with Hydrogen.

Question of the Day?

Certainly in the UK some of the Thames barges had engines fitted very early as a means to help them up some of the narrow east coast inlets where sailing was almost impossible. Also helped them around some of the awkward east coast tides restricting when then could load and unload.

Oops, sorry didn’t mention soldering. Many of my fittings are made of brass and are soldered. Masts are generally brass so small parts can be attached with solder. Railings are soldered

Bet AI never heard of solder
