How did a RoRo get so close to a very clearly marked navigation aid? These modern guys have satnav and all sorts of gimmicks to save the crew having to work too hard, but where was the officer of the watch? If we sailed our model boats like that, we would soon have to answer for our poor navuigation and control!!!🤓

people who sail regularly either in full size yachts, dinghies or model yachts know this only too well when the wind dies in the middle of a tack. The only way to av oid it is to go into the tack with plenty of speed.

From a former Naval Warrant Officer. The Bow lookout reverses any order he gives to match the view of the Helmsman. If looking astern. Other wise if looking forward which is normal position his directions would be the same as the Helmsman sees.

Didn't have a problem with this as I have often visited "Lands End" the estate in Cornwall so favoured by the tourists. If you have visited you can hardly have missed the iconic Lighthouse or the sign saying Lands End with destination posts pointing around the globe.

Find these questions instructive for a landlubber like me. Coincidentally, I knew the name of this lighthouse because we were in Sennen Cove last year with the camper van.

The question, the way I read it was that the lighthouse was on land. The one with a correct answer against it is 2 Kilometres out to sea on an islet!
You certainly can't walk there.

It just goes to show who looks at the Directors name in a film. I had to look up Eddie..... perhaps a less savoury character, but nothing to do with films. Just can't get enough money for himself!

Today I just clicked any answer as Eddie Lampert the real owner wasn't an option but after I confirmed my wrong answer he appeared as if by magic.???? Now totally confused.

I thought...another trick question...hmmm. So I went with no matter which way you stand on the boat port and starboard are just that. So I tricked myself, I must try harder! RR

Kind of awkward wording on that question. In any normal conversation regarding the right and left side of a car/truck/boat/plane, it is assumed you are facing forward from the interior of the vehicle. To ask what is the left side called facing backward in the vehicle kinda made smoke roll outta my ears as I processed the reverse thinking. The answer is correct for the way the question is worded, and I did get it correct ... but VERY sneaky wording on the question!

So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.

If you are on the boat with your back to the bow and look to the left you are looking over or at the starboard side of the boat.

Sorry but I just don't get it, whether you are in the water, on the boat, or hanging for your ankles on the yard arm. Starboard is always going to be on the right-hand side and port on the left. If in doubt check the colour of the navigation lights. Regards, Gary.

Which ever way your looking the left side is always Port, if giving directions you always amend it to the side you require. The helmsman looking forward will see port on the opposite side to the guider looking astern.

Well now, after some Sherlock thinking, the bow is pointy….. the stern in the hind end….. that left me to a 50 / 50 multiple guess.
I closed my eyes and hit the right one !

A frigate seems a bit dodgy for a trip like that, Battleships do not go any where alone. Destroyers usually are there to protect a larger ship and cruisers are set up to cruise alone, hence the name.
