Farewell my friend, Godspeed. My thoughts were with you and your family on this sad day.

I was privileged to have 'known' you electronically for an all too short time, from 'Big Blue' through to 'My little Victory', I do hope you managed to finish her.
I came to know you as a consummate model maker, artist and sculptor - those horses are incredible - and a gentle man of great humour with a talent for enthusing and teaching other model makers. Not to mention an inspired recycler!
As Colin said, we will meet up again so get the workshop set up and we will endeavour to bring a supply of yoghurt pots and ice cream tubs with us.
I raise my glass to you and bid you 'Auf wiedersehen'.
Cheers, Doug

I sent a link to this topic to Martin's family so that they could see all the tributes from our members.

I received the following response from Martin's son:

" It was very touching to read the comments from the members; dad would have greatly appreciated them. The forum was a large part of dad’s life since he retired around 5 years ago. He loved being in contact with like minded hobbyists and I believe he considered you all as his friends."

So sorry to hear of Martin's passing. One of our most knowledgeable shipmates, he was a great inspiration to us all. I'm afraid I missed the news for a few days as I was none too well myself, but I have the excuse of being 25 years older than him. R.I.P.

I was very sad to hear of Martins' passing. I'll miss Martins' sense of humour, helpful suggestions and on-line friendship. He was a tremendous asset to this site, and has no doubt helped countless modellers with advise and encouragement. He wasn't in good health for a long time, but it didn't slow him down. He'll be a great loss to all of us, as there are few people who put in the effort to help others like he did. One of a kind, - RIP mate.

I am so sorry to read that Martin has passed away. As a beginner he was the person who recommended me to join this forum and contacted me about a problem I had with building my first RC boat. His messages were friendly and very helpful. Although I only communicated with him for a short time I will miss his friendliness and helpful advice.
Best regards,

This is awful news. I know he's not been well for some time, but I didn't see this coming so suddenly.

65 is no age and I see he was actively posting still on the 31st Jan. He's certainly been a huge asset to the community here. Welcoming and helping all our members, all around the world.

A tremendous loss to the community 😔

Hi Everyone,

I have just heard from Martin’s son Chris that Martin555 passed away suddenly on February 1st.

I’m sure that many of you will remember Martin’s builds on the site, usually made out of yogurt and ice cream pots! As a former moderator on the site he was always responding to posts with helpful comments, and lots of humour.

He will be a great loss to the model boat building community.
