Steam Pinnace

199 is a steam pinnace of the Royal Navy, built in 1909 by J. Reid of Portsmouth. She is now owned by the National Museum of the Royal Navy, and is based at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.[1][2][3]
History
During its restoration, the ship was misidentified and it became known as Steam Pinnace 199.[1][3] However, it was later determined that the ship's machinery originated from pinnaces 208 and 224, and that its hull, stern cabin, and funnel also came from 224. Despite these findings, the name Steam Pinnace 199 was retained.[1][3][4][5] Steam Pinnace 224 was built in 1909, and was assigned to the battlecruiser HMS Inflexible in 1916.[1][3] It was sold out of the Royal Navy on 6 August 1948,[3] and in 1952 she was sold to a private owner, renamed Treleague, and was converted into a houseboat located on the Thames.[1] During this time its steam machinery was removed, and replaced by a petrol engine.[4] After serving as a houseboat for about 20 years, she was purchased by an antiques dealer who intended to restore her.[1][4] However, the project was deemed too expensive and its hull was sold to the National Museum of the Royal Navy in 1979.[1][4]
Restoration
She was restored by a group called the Steam Launch Restoration Group, based in Gosport.[2] In 1983, she was given a boiler and compound engine from a similar steam pinnace,[1][4] found at the Royal Navy shore establishment HMS Sultan.[1][4] Her original steam auxiliary engines were found at a yard in Belgium.[1] During her restoration, the ship was given a replacement Hotchkiss 3-pounder gun dating from 1887, and salvaged from the sea by a trawler in 1980.[1][5] The gun has been restored cosmetically; however, it is not functional and the inside of the barrel is corroded.[1][5] The ship was finally recommissioned in 1984, and was kept in the Mast Pond of Portsmouth Historic Dockyard until 1998,[2][4] when she was brought to Gosport for a refit.[2][4] From 1999 to 2001 her machinery was given a major refurbishment.[4] Since then, she has taken place in many events such as the International Festival of the Sea, the Yarmouth Old Gaffers Festival and the Southampton Boat Show.[1][4] In May 2011, she developed leaks in her boiler tubes and was transported to the Maritime Workshop in February 2012.[1] She was given a refit, and she was relaunched in 2015.[1] Steam Pinnace 199 is preserved afloat in Boathouse 4 at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.[2][5]

Modelled on RNLB 33 - 07 Inner Wheel towards the later end of her service when the enclosed radar had been replaced by the Furuno rotating array. I know its to fast for scale speed but I was enjoying its first outing post refurbishment!

This is my very first wood model. I started to build her long time ago but when I got to the rigging part, I came to a screeching halt do to the lack of rigging knowledge.
After several years of being built without rigging, our cleaning lady knocked it off the base to the floor. It was a total disaster, 3 years after that, I decided to refurbished it and do the rigging with the help of this book.

While I'm at it I have put up this video of my tug. I had been having problems with this and I completely replaced everything inside. Turns out the rudder servo was dodgy and the motor, a geared 500 was far too poky. It now performs beautifully and very quietly. Obviously it's an old Graupner Bugsier but refurbished by me to look a bit more like a British tug. The motor is a low noise 500 with direct drive mounted on a rubber sheet - the only noise is a whine from the esc.

This model of Seaplane Tender 200 is another "loft rescue" that I have been asked to refurbish by its owner. This is a static model and along with his other models and mine we exhibit them at museum events to remind and educate people that the RAF used to have a Marine Branch for 68 years until its demise in 1986. Seaplane Tender 200 was the lead craft of the 200 Class Seaplane Tenders designed by Hubert Scott-Paine in the early 1930's. The L.o.a was 37ft 6in, beam 8ft 6in and draught 2ft 6in. powered by 2 x Meadows 828 100hp petrol engines with a range of 100miles. Now before the purists come along and say that the 200 class ST had enclosed wheelhouse not not an open backed one, ST 200 was the only one that was built that way the rest of the class had enclosed wheelhouse and walk through cabin. this model is 1:24 scale and is probably about 25 years old

this model was built1959 by my brother its based on a thames cruiser similer to the dunkirk little ships built from plans and is planked over frame consruction ive just completely refurbished after it fell into disrepair due to damp storagefound some pics of boat prior to recent refit you csn model is down inthe bows due to an intake of water hence the the refit ken0191

Hi I was given this 1m class hull by good friend in the Irish Model boat club last year and I started to refurbished the 1m class sailing boat this year here is MataRoa on her first maiden voyage this weekend in Herbert park Dublin I give her 10 out of 10

My recently finished boat that I have refurbished.

After a re-paint and total refurbish she was tried out on the Omskirk and West Lancs Model Boat Club lake at Hurlston Golf and Country Club Scarisbrick Ormskirk Lancs.
She is not mega fast but sails well as you can see from the video.
